Important Notice: Kansas Elevator Safety Act Compliance Requirements

Dear Valued Customers,

We hope this notice finds you well. We are writing to inform you about the upcoming enactment of the 2022 Kansas Elevator Safety Act, which introduces new regulations and compliance requirements for elevators within the state of Kansas. As a trusted provider of elevator services, we want to ensure that our commercial customers and church partners are aware of these changes and understand their responsibilities.

Effective July 1, 2023, the Kansas Elevator Safety Act mandates that all commercial buildings, including places of worship with elevators must adhere to specific safety guidelines to ensure the well-being of elevator users. These guidelines encompass regular inspections, maintenance, and necessary upgrades to guarantee the safe operation of elevators.

Please note that the Kansas Elevator Safety Act applies to all types of vertical transportation devices, including elevators, wheelchair lifts, platform lifts, and stairlifts. It is crucial to ensure that these systems comply with the Act's safety guidelines to guarantee the well-being and accessibility of all users. Our company is well-versed in the maintenance, inspections, and upgrades required for various vertical transportation devices, and we are here to provide the necessary services and support to ensure compliance with the Kansas Elevator Safety Act.

Due to Sedgwick County's existing Elevator Inspections meeting these requirements, no additional registration or inspections will be needed for lifts within Sedgwick County beyond such inspections already required by Sedgwick County.

Key Requirements under the Kansas Elevator Safety Act:

  1. Lift Registration: It is important to note that building owners must register all elevators, wheelchair lifts, platform lifts, and stairlifts with the State Fire Marshal's office in accordance with the Elevator Safety Act. Registration ensures that the lift meets the necessary safety standards and undergoes periodic inspections. The registration form can be found here Our company can assist you in understanding the registration process and ensuring compliance with this requirement.
  2. Elevator Inspections: All elevators, wheelchair lifts, platform lifts, and stairlifts within commercial buildings and churches must undergo annual inspections by a certified elevator inspector, with the assistance of a licensed elevator mechanic. Inspections are to be scheduled annually to assess the elevator's condition, identify potential safety hazards, and ensure compliance with state regulations. Our licensed elevator mechanics can assist you in scheduling these inspections and provide any necessary support to meet these requirements promptly.
